Community attracts
Sincere Christian community can draw others toward Jesus through shared meals, glad hearts, generosity, and praise.
A seminary professor wanted to reach her neighbors for Christ but wasn't sure where to begin. She lived in a neighborhood where the homes had nice front yards facing a quiet street, so she had an idea.
She and her husband began setting up a table in the front yard and having dinner a few times a month, always preparing enough food for others to join if they wanted. And with time, neighbors began to join, bringing their own food offerings in true potluck fashion.
Through these meal gatherings they eventually started a weekly Bible study, reaching people who otherwise would not attend church. This simple front-yard meal had accomplished exactly what the professor had wanted to do - reaching others for Christ.
It worked because of a simple yet profound truth: people want community. It's attractive to see others gathering, sharing what they have, and relating to one another.
The early church we read about in Acts understood this and because they did, the church experienced incredible growth. In fact, Scripture says God added to their numbers daily!
In the same way, your community of faith is meant not only to feed and nourish you and those with whom you gather - it's meant to draw others in too.
It doesn't require elaborate programs or plans either. A shared meal, sincere hearts, and praising God are simple ways to witness to those around you and attract them into your community where they, too, can encounter Jesus.

Questions for Thought
- How can you draw others into your Christian community with a sincere heart?
- Who is someone you can invite to visit a smaller church gathering or event that might feel less threatening than a worship service?
