Live your legacy

Faith is a priceless inheritance to model, pray over, and pass on to children, grandchildren, and those who follow.

2 Timothy 1:5

In 1993, the all-female Christian vocal group Point of Grace released a song titled "Living the Legacy". The chorus says this:

I'm living the legacyWalking the path that the faithful have laid downI'm living the legacyFinding the hope that my fathers foundI am standing tall when I'm on my kneesI'm living the legacy

The song tells of a faith handed down from parents to children over generations. And not only that, but of the prayers of predecessors for the future faith of their offspring.

When he wrote his second letter to Timothy, the apostle Paul traced this same kind of line from Timothy's grandmother, to his mother, and then to Timothy himself. Timothy's faith was an inheritance of great value!

For those of us who have experienced intergenerational faith in Christ, the blessing of this kind of legacy is clear. Having a mother, father, or grandparents to look up to as models of how to walk with the Lord is a gift for which we should rightly give thanks to God.

And for your children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, your prayers for them and your example of faith are two of the most powerful gifts you can give to them, so that by God's grace they will one day look back and see that they too are living the legacy.
